GIPSA

Posted 11/8/2011 10:40pm by Heather Skorinko.

The 2008 Farm Bill required the Congress to issue rules addressing anti-competitive trade practices in the livestock and poultry industries.  The proposed Fair Farm Rules (GIPSA) have yet to be finalized and implemented due to the opposition of corporate agribusinesses.  On Thursday, November 3rd there was a rally at Lehigh University and one in Philadelphia in an attempt to bring attention to this issue.  I attended the rally in Philadelphia and also hoped to speak with Sen. Casey.  He did not attend the meeting so we had to speak to his representatives.  As a small livestock farmer I felt it was important to have my voice heard and was glad to have the experience.  If you support small farms, contact Sen. Casey's office and urge him to back the implementation of GIPSA.
